  • Grantwriter/Development Associate

    Since 1994, The Battery Conservancy has raised over $85 million in private and government support. In partnership with the City of New York, the Conservancy is reshaping the landscape at the southern tip of Manhattan and creating a new standard for public parks.

    World–renowned Dutch Plantsman Piet Oudolf designed the Garden Masterplan. Architect Frank Gehry is currently designing a Playspace for the Battery. The groundbreaking for SeaGlass, Carousel at the Battery is planned for Fall 2008. First Bloom, a recent partnership with the Lower East Side Girls and Boys clubs and sponsored by the National Parks Foundation, took root this Spring 2008 for local children to learn about and plant perennials at the Battery.

    This is an exceptional opportunity for a strong development professional. The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative, committed to parks as cultural destinations, interested in innovative urban planning and knowledgeable about New York history. This person will maintain current funding relationships with proposals and reports as well as identify and research prospective funders. Other duties include supporting the president as the lead fundraiser for the organization, maintaining Raiser’s Edge, tracking gifts and pledges, researching and preparing presentations for meetings, and assisting with two annual fundraising events as well as smaller cultivation events throughout the year.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree or higher
    • 2–4 years of relevant experience
    • Excellent communication, organizational skills and strong attention to detail
    • Computer skills a must, Microsoft Office suite required — priority will be given to candidates with Raiser’s Edge, Photoshop and InDesign experience
