Compost Build-Out with NYC Compost Project Manhattan (April 3-5, 2012) The cleared out compost area, pre-construction… Day 1: Assistant Farm Manager Henry Sweets carefully cuts wood. Project Manager Andrew Hoyles of the NYC Compost Project instructs Farm Coordinator Lauren Kaplan on the finer points of power tool-usage. Finishing up a side piece for one of the three bins. Farm Intern Caroline Hiteshew shows off the finished piece. Day 2: We’ve moved on-site! With Farm Intern Lilly Gibson, NYC Compost Project Manager Natalie Wesson, and community farmer Dara Barr. Farmer Henry, photo-documenting the build-out — with Farm Educator Anna Ellis and Farm Intern Lilly Gibson. Andrew and Dara, color-coordinated. More twins! NYC Compost Project Manager Andrew Hoyles receives assistance from Farm Educator Intern Ann Kay. Rotating the half-finished compost structure (and finding out it’s much lighter than it looks!) An embarassed Lauren looks on as Andrew and Camilla go in to fix a less-than-successfull attempt at using an electric drill, as Dara and Lilly look on. Andrew measures, as Farm Coordinator Lauren and Farm Educator Anna look on. End of Day 2: NYC Compost Project Managers Natalie Wesson and Andrew Hoyles wrap up after a hard day’s work. Before… And after! Farm Manager Camilla Hammer shows off our new compost system. Thanks LES Ecology Center!
