The Master Plan
The Battery Master Plan was funded by the Battery Park City Authority, in cooperation with NYC Parks & Recreation, the owners of the property. The plan was created by the architectural firm of Ehrenkrantz and Eckstut with Philip Winslow as the landscape architect. The plan completed public review and won an art commission award in 1986 for design excellence.
The Battery Conservancy was founded in 1994 to implement this plan. The Conservancy, working with Saratoga Associates, drafted a strategic action plan called The Battery Rebuilt. Over the past eight years the plan has evolved into these ten project areas:
- Battery Sea Wall and Railing (w/ The River That Flows Two Ways)
- Battery Promenade with the Gardens of Remembrance
- The Battery Labyrinth
- Battery Bosque Gardens with Fountain
- Battery Carousel
- Battery Playground
- Battery Garden Bikeway
- The Battery Green
- The Battery Lawn
- The Castle at The Battery (Castle Clinton/Castle Garden)
