Peter Minuit Plaza

In February 2007, the Commissioner of Parks, Adrian Benepe, asked The Battery Conservancy to incorporate the design, construction, maintenance and programming of Peter Minuit Plaza into its mission statement. The 1.3-acre plaza is now included in the landscape of the Master Plan of the Battery.

Located directly in front of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, with subway, bicycle, bus and water transport options, Peter Minuit Plaza will be New York City’s premier intermodal transportation hub. The design, by NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Manhattan Capital Projects, incorporates plans to accommodate the Plaza’s transportation needs, as well as programming that could include a weekly green market, flea market, or other public assemblages.

Plaza construction is expected to be completed by Spring 2010.
