Support the Battery

100% of the park you experience today has been generated through the creative vision and dynamic force of The Battery Conservancy.

The Battery, New York City’s first waterfront park was created in 1693. Some 300 years later, private citizens established The Battery Conservancy to raise funds to transform the 25 acre landscape which had become dilapidated, downtrodden and overlooked as a sought-after destination.

Today it is the thriving green heart of dynamic Downtown New York.  It is a model of conservation and biodiversity with vast public gardens, organic urban farms, toxin-free lawns and SeaGlass, the innovative aquarium carousel. It has set high standards in planning, design, construction and sustainable park management.

On June 8, 2017 The Battery Conservancy hosted its 22nd Annual Gala honoring Hermès and celebrating the vibrancy of Lower Manhattan.

Under a starlit crystalline pavilion, over 500 guests sipped champagne and enjoyed dinner and dancing. Hermès enlisted Uggo Gattoni to design a limited-edition scarf to benefit the park and the artist performed live sketching while a trio of violinist surprised and delighted. To top off the night, a lively auction contributed to the evening’s success.

DEDICATE A BATTERY CHAIR

The Battery Chair was created from The Battery Conservancy Americas Design Competition in 2012. Canadian designer Andrew Jones was selected by a jury which reviewed 679 submissions from 15 countries.

Manufactured by Maglin Site Furniture, the winning chair is a solid steel frame powder-coated in blue. It is moveable within the new two-acre Battery Oval lawn so visitors can sit where they choose.

Donors can dedicate chairs to honor or remember loved ones or celebrate the momentous events of life. A steel plaque will be engraved and affixed discreetly to the back of The Battery Chair, to become part of the permanent collection on The Battery Oval. Please see our Chair Sponsorship form.
