In 2002, The Battery Conservancy commissioned renowned Dutch plantsman Piet Oudolf to develop a horticultural Master Plan for the park. Known for his use of perennials and native plants, Oudolf’s gardening style is one of texture, fragrance, and color. His gardens engage visitors as they gracefully transition from season to season.

Garden Guide Wins 2007 Wally Award: A distinguished panel of five judges has selected the Battery Conservancy’s Gardens of Remembrance: A Garden Guide as one of three designs for top honors in Yupo Corporation America’s fifth annual ‘Wally Awards’. The three Wally Award winners were chosen from over 120 submissions of projects created on YUPO ranging from brochures, labels, and menus to posters, maps, and watercolor paintings.
Designed by Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf in 2002, The Battery Bosque is a unique 4-acre woodland garden. This spiral bound guidebook tells the story and illustrates the beauty of a quintessential public urban garden, presenting the continuity of seasons through the twelve months of the year.
