In May 2022, Gail Karlsson, author of A Bird’s Guide to The Battery and New York Harbor, created The Battery Bird Banners on view throughout the park. To celebrate one-year of the bird banners at The Battery, join us for a morning bursting with Battery Bird activities.

9:30am: Bird and Banner Walking Tour led by Gail Karlsson

• Meet at the Netherland Memorial Flagpole. Explore the diversity of migrating birds that find food and habitat in The Battery. Witness living birds as well as Gail Karlsson’s bird portraits through educational banners displaying photos of some of the many birds that live in or pass through the park. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.

11am: Coffee with Battery Birders at The Bosque Gardens

• Meet at the Pixie Scout Carousel Kiosk. Celebrate birding at the park with like-minded Battery Birders over coffee and pastries. Todd Olson from the Wildlife Conservation Society will lead a discussion centered on bird watching in the New York City.

12:30pm: Bird Crafts at Battery Playscape

• Meet at The Battery Playscape. Birding fun for the whole family! Join The Battery Playscape Associates in a bird-themed craft under the umbrellas in the Battery Playscape playground.
