Battery Playscape Grand Opening Celebration

On December 16, 2021, NYC Parks Commissioner Gabrielle Fialkoff and The Battery Conservancy President Warrie Price joined Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Chair Holly Leicht, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Council Member Margaret Chin, Community Board 1 Chair Tammy Meltzer, and community members to open the highly anticipated 1.5-acre Battery Playscape.

The Knickerbocker Nighthawks performed live music to spark up the mood.

The speaking program included remarks from Lower Manhattan Development Corporation Trustee Holly Leicht, President Warrie Price, U.S. Representative Jerrold Nadler, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, Councilmember Margaret Chin, and Manhattan Community Board 1 Chair Tammy Meltzer. 

When MBP Brewer spoke, she proclaimed December 16, 2021 Elizabeth H. Atwood day, to recognize and celebrate her significant service to The Battery and to the City of New York.

Following the speaking program, officials and attendees were invited to the Bluff to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

To close out the celebration, CityParks Puppet Mobile performed a cabaret-style Puppet Show at ShowBox Theater!
